BIO

A versatile pianist, accordionist, and composer, Marco Varvello has forged his stylistic identity across a wide range of productions, including film scores, studio albums as a leader and sideman, and countless live performances. His journey has seen him contribute to notable projects such as the Turin 2006 Olympics, Notte della Taranta, Orchestra Alta Felicità, Bandakadabra, and the Lovers Film Festival, while performing in clubs and festivals across Italy, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, and South Africa.
Introduced to music by his father, Carlo, an accordionist, Marco has since navigated a diverse musical landscape, embracing projects in jazz, manouche, rock, and electronic music. Within the folk sphere, he has founded and contributed to various ensembles, including Cloroformio, La Roul, Alberto Cesa, and Teatro delle Forme. His dedication to this genre led him to bring the traditional music of the sub-alpine region to the renowned Notte della Taranta in Galatina in 2005.
His formal education includes a Diploma in Jazz Composition from the Turin Conservatory (under the guidance of Mº Furio di Castri and Mº Stefano Maccagno), a Master's in Film Score Composition from the Pesaro Conservatory (with Oscar-winner Mº Luis Bacalov), and a Master's in Music Technology from APM Saluzzo (focusing on production and arrangement). He also attended a masterclass on the accordion with Mº Geir Draugsvoll at Nord Accordion in Voss, Norway. He was awarded a scholarship to the South African College of Music in Cape Town at Arcevia Jazz 2015, and at the Torino Lovers Film Festival in 2018, he received the Riot Music Award for his work during a masterclass with Teho Teardo.
In 2016, he founded the independent record label Noise Ark Records, through which he has produced several albums focused on instrumental music.
In 2024, he launched the Interkosmos Project, a venture where he explores new compositional methods through the sonification of astronomical data and the development of original software. He also remains an active creator and organizer of musical workshops and educational seminars.
